Michigan State Championship – April 2024

The State Championship was a lot of fun for the team! We placed 13th at the end of qualifications and we got picked by the 5th alliance. Our alliance consisted of 3546 Buc’n’Gears and 2611 JackTown Vectors, and we placed 4th overall. We played our best and had an excellent strategy, but we lost to the #1 alliance who went on to win the division. We also won the creativity award, again! At the end of the season, our team ranked 54th in the state, but in terms of average points, our robot was ranked 28th out of 511 teams. This was definitely a year to remember.

West Michigan District – March 2024

Our alliance blew the competition away! We won the event and qualified for states. We had a 7 game win streak (and a tie) to start off, and we successfully used our new blowers to blow the trap door open and score! We were the first pick of the fourth alliance (6090, 5675, and 244). Our biggest victory was against the #1 alliance (2767, 3357, 6114) and we won by 2 points. We made it to the finals and took home the blue banner. We will be looking forward to States!

St. Joseph District – March 2024

We started the season off with a banger! We lost the first four matches but made some quick improvements and then went on a nine-match win streak! We were the first pick of Alliance 4 (74, 5675, and 4855) and we lasted until the quarter-finals. Both of the matches we lost were very close, one of the game scores was 78-80 points. We also won the Creativity Award for the design of our robot. We are looking forward to competing at GVSU!

Worlds! – Houston – April 2023

The WiredCats competed at the Worlds competition in Houston, Texas. After a tough match schedule, we placed 57th at the end of qualification matches. We allowed some new drivers to get practice on the field, and we accomplished our goal of having fun. We are looking forward to next season!

Michigan State Championship – Saginaw – April 2023

The Mattawan Wired Cats competed at the States competition in Saginaw. We placed 14th and were picked for the 8th alliance with 2054 Tech Vikes and 4779 RoboSapiens, and we got eliminated in the Semifinals. We now have enough district points to go to Worlds in Houston, and we are ranked 50th in the state! Our team is looking forward to going to Worlds in Houston from April 19th to April 22nd!

Lakeview #1 District – March 2023

We had a very successful competition at Lakeview. Our team placed 2nd at the end of the qualification round, and we were picked by 9312 NERD Spark for the 1st alliance with 4810 I AM Robot. After a tie and restarted match in the finals, our team won the event! Our team also won the Engineering award only given out to teams who have excellence in engineering. After Lakeview, we now have enough rank points to qualify for States at Saginaw State University. The Mattawan Wiredcats are pumped and ready for States on April 6th!

St. Joseph District – March 2023

To start off the 2023 season, the Mattawan Wiredcats team went to St. Joseph. We were the 6th place team at the end of qualification matches, and captain of the 4th playoff alliance, and we made it to the last semi-final match before the finals. We also won the Quality award! Overall, our team had an amazing experience at St. Joe!

World Championship! – St. Louis – April 2017

The WiredCats’ first trip to a world championship was quite an experience! Being a new(er) team, there was much to learn about getting our robot and team from West Michigan to St. Louis. We figured it out, sometimes the hard way, and had a great experience!

In competition, we started strong, ranked as high as #3 on Daly. A highlight from day 1 was being on an alliance that was successful in competition against a popular cheesy snack food 🙂 We struggled with some technical challenges on day 2 and finished 19th on Daly. Unfortunately, we were not selected for an alliance to move on. We are proud of our team, and also of our Kalamazoo-area friends, Stryke Force, that went on to win the championship!
